On Friday last week I (Laughing John) was invited to a Hilton Hotel meeting room in Lincoln to lead a 30 minute laughter therapy workshop. This was held at 8am! The session was organised for respiratory nurses so at least we had people at hand if there were any casualties. About fifteen nurses entered the room with trepidation and curiousity. The same sort of faces you get when people look at a Wetherspoons menu (one of the 6 on each table) for the first time! However the difference being that all were laughing hysterically within minutes instead of shaking with anticipation after they have ordered something that in some cases would be more expensive to prepare at home! That certainly won’t be an issue in a laughter therapy workshop.
After a congenial introduction assuring everyone that they won’t be put on the spot or having to perform any yoga postures we went through a surreal mix of some 80s music moves, some fun breathing techniques and improvised sounds/expressions that probably sounded like a children’s playground combined with a wild zoo. Everyone smiled and laughed throughout the sequence of various ‘laughter exercises’ we undertook! The session concluded with a group buzz (getting all to buzz like bees ) as I was hired to ‘get them all buzzing’. Many said to me after they really enjoyed it and felt great! So a friday in Lincoln well spent with no casualties.
I have been doing this work since 2009 and still find it difficult to explain what happens! Once you do a session you will understand in a good way. Please get in touch for a free demo/explanation!
